Amazing stop! Informative guide with replica tools, weapons, loom. Cute gift shop with a few Viking inspired items. Part of the road in is gravel, but in good repair.Full review by Caroline Z

It’s not a big place. You can see everything in about 15 minutes. But the storyteller inside the house was the best part of the stop. We listened to him for probably 30-40 minutes. It was extremely interesting. He not only discussed history and related subjects, he talked about current Iceland and answered questions. So the time you spend would depend on how long you want to stay and listen. And I suppose not all storytellers are created equal, so some may be more interesting than others.

I didn't found the Settlement Exhibition as engaging as Eirikstadir, and if you are planning to go to Western Fjords, it is for sure a place to go. They say on their website: Open every day 9:00-18:00, 1. juni- 31. august, Also for group at other time. So contact them directly [email protected] : )

I dont think there are any marked hiking trails leading to or from Eiriksstadir but the area is really interesting and there is a road over the Haukadalsheidi (a mountain track) to the Hrutafjordur area, east of Haukadalur. You might get better informations from the locals so check "Dalatravel Iceland" on Facebook :) I hope this will help you :)

Bear in mind that this is a reconstruction. You can see where the original was, but it is only some turf ridges. It is quite a way from Reykjavik just to visit this, but if you were heading for, for example, the Snaefellsness Peninsula, the you could easily incorporate it into your driving schedule.
