​​On Sunday, Gov. Greg Abbott, speaking to a throng of more than 800 attendees at his State of the State address, unveiled school choice, property tax relief, and teacher pay raises among his seven emergency items for legislators to address immediately during the ongoing legislation session.

The governor’s speech sets a broad agenda for the Legislature, including a nuclear renaissance and a Texas Cyber Command.

Abbott’s emergency items include property tax relief, improving water infrastructure, creating a universal school voucher program, increasing teacher pay, expanding career training, improving cyber security, and continuing bail reform—some of which had been priorities for Abbott in previous legislative sessions.
