Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Palisades neighborhood are reopening to the public this weekend despite concerns from some local residents and officials who fear it’s too soon to allow wide access to the fire-damaged area.

The Pacific Coast Highway will be partially reopened this Sunday morning for the first time since the Palisades Fire. Beginning Feb. 2 at 8 a.m., essential traffic can use one lane in each direction. While the Los Angeles Police Department will not hand out re-entry passes, National Guard troops will remain in many areas.

With cleanup and restoration work still ongoing in the wake of the Palisades fire, all areas of Pacific Coast Highway will nonetheless reopen to essential traffic beginning Sunday, though with only one lane open in each direction — and with reduced speeds in effect, it was announced Friday.

Although the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu reopened on Sunday, the general public is still not allowed into the Palisades area, causing some confusion among drivers. KTLA's Rachel Menitoff speaks with residents in the area on Feb.
