Texas will join a growing list of college football programs doing away with traditional spring games in favor of a slightly restructured practice slate, coach Steve Sarkisian said during a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams Show.

AUSTIN — Texas announced Thursday that it will not hold a spring football game for the first time in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s four-year Longhorn tenure. Sarkisian made the announcement on a football podcast and cited the wear and tear of two consecutive long seasons as the reason for the cancellation.

College football's annual rite of spring seems to be withering. Texas became the latest major program Thursday to ditch or change its annual spring scrimmage that has long been a staple for fans eager to see rising stars and get a peek into the upcoming season.
