NBA Hall of Famers Chris Webber and Grant Hill are part of a Detroit ownership group trying to bring a WNBA team to the city

Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores is leading an investor group that includes some of the biggest names in local sports and business in an effort to bring the WNBA to Detroit.

Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp and quarterback Jared Goff are among the investors listed in the collection. Others involved include NBA Hall of Famers Grant Hill and Chris Webber and General Motors CEO Mary Barra.

Pistons owner Tom Gores submitted the bid Thursday and it was announced Friday. The group includes Sheila Ford Hamp and her husband, the principal owners of the Lions; the chief executive officer and chair of General Motors Company; Hall of Famer and former NBA rookie of the Year Grant Hill; Lions quarterback Jared Goff and his wife; and others.

The team trying to bring the WNBA back to Detroit includes Goff and his wife, Christen, Webber, former Pistons great Grant Hill and his wife, Tamia, Lions principal owner Sheila Hamp and husband, Steve, General Motors CEO Mary Barra and her husband, Tony, and many others.

Several ownership groups, including the Detroit Pistons, have submitted bids for the WNBA's 16th franchise as expansion continues.

Detroit wants to bring the WNBA back to the Motor City, backed by an investor group led by the owner of the NBA's Pistons and NFL's Lions.
