CHELSEA, Mass. — The Trump administration is reportedly expanding the powers of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The New York Times reports a new memo signed by the head of the Homeland Security Department appears to allow ICE agents the ability to quickly deport migrants allowed into the United States by two Biden-era programs.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security memo provides guidance for the use of a fast-track deportation process that the Trump administration reinstated earlier this week, suggesting officers focus on migrants who failed to request asylum within a one-year deadline after arriving in the U.

Biden Jr. focused enforcement on the record numbers of people who had recently crossed the southern border and used expanded emergency powers under Covid to conduct four million deportations during his tenure.
