A new candidate has entered the race for City Council. “People don’t know how to become part of the solution,” Kelly Cheatle said while announcing her bid for City Council Tuesday afternoon. “Too often we are getting stopped at the doors at City Hall.

The City has fielded numerous complaints concerning the impact of the raised letter pavers on people with mobility and vision issues.

The Rochester City Council is expected to vote to finalize negotiations Monday for a sports complex site in southeast Rochester.

On Monday, the Rochester City Council heard a recommendation to purchase land for the Rochester sports and recreation complex that was approved by voters back in 2023.

On Monday night, the city council voted unanimously to authorize staff to enter final negotiations to purchase a 160 acre site in southeast Rochester for $5 million. The land, which is owned by Seneca Foods, lies the east of the Shoppes on Maine retail complex.

The race for City Council continues to grow as another candidate makes their official announcement. Community organizer and visual artist Kelly Cheatle announced Tuesday morning at the Hungerford building her plan to run for an at-large City Council seat.
