The Senate voted late Friday to advance South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s nomination to be Homeland Security secretary, setting up a final and likely bipartisan vote to confirm her later this weekend. Senators voted 61-39 to end a filibuster on Noem’s nomination, all but assuring her confirmation.

So far, Kristi Noem appears to have strong backing from GOP senators who will be crucial to her confirmation as head of the Department of Homeland Security.
