KXAN has mapped precinct-level results in counties across the state to get a better picture of how Texans voted in the U.S. Senate election.

Dallas County opened a bid for a new voter check-in digital tablet vendor since the state de-certified the devices that glitched during the November election.

Tuesday’s approval for a special May election follows the December gathering of 144 residents who sought more funding for volunteer fire departments in the district North of Pottsboro and West of Locust.

Since then, the vast majority of House speakers have been elected by acclamation or with more than 140 votes. Even Rep. Dade Phelan, whom hard-right Republicans forced from seeking a third term, received 143 votes in 2021 and 145 in 2023.

All 11 Fort Worth City Council seats are up for election this year. And residents are guaranteed at least one new face on council, after District 5’s Gyna Bivens announced she isn’t running for reelection after 12 years in the seat.

AUSTIN — The 89th legislative session began Tuesday with members of the Texas House electing Rep. Dustin Burrows as their new speaker after a month-long divisive battle among Republicans. Burrows won the speaker's race by a vote of 85-55.

In the lead-up to the Nov. 5 election, Attorney General Ken Paxton ramped up efforts to put his imprint on rules governing elections in Texas and other states.

Williams, who represents District 6, which includes the far south and southwest of Fort Worth, was elected to the council in 2021.

The speaker election ends a multi-month fight within the Texas Republican Party that began last legislative session.
