Tony Roberts, a versatile, Tony Award-nominated theater performer at home in both plays and musicals and who appeared in several Woody Allen movies — often as Allen’s best friend — has died

Tony Roberts, the actor known for his many collaborations with writer-director Woody Allen, has died. He was 85. His most-remembered role may well be in Allen’s 1977 romantic comedy Annie Hall. Roberts played Rob, best friend to Allen’s Alvy Singer.

Mr. Roberts appeared in dozens of films and Broadway shows but was best known as the unflappable counterpoint to Allen’s tightly wound characters.
