The world set yet another monthly heat record in January, despite an abnormally chilly U.S., a cooling La Nina​​ and predictions of a slightly less hot 2025, the European climate service Copernicus says.

Earth’s prolonged streak of abnormal heat continued into 2025 despite the arrival of La Niña ocean conditions, which typically bring cooler temperatures.

The world warmed to yet another monthly heat record in January, leaving scientists shocked. It was hoped that the La Niña weather which began in the same month would get 2025 off to a cooler start than 2023 and 2024,

Scientists hoped the emergence of La Nina will slow down the record breaking global warming, but last month broke the record by 0.1C.
