Many D.C.-area schools will open two hours late Thursday and a few systems are closed after a mix of sleet, freezing rain and plain rain fell across the region. Federal agencies will be open, with the option for unscheduled leave or telework,

National Weather Service forecasters Wednesday set down a Winter Weather Advisory covering almost the entire state, warning of slippery road conditions during the morning and evening commutes. Snowfall is expected to begin between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday, before the precipitation shifts to ice and rain in the afternoon.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until this afternoon in parts of the Finger Lakes Region, bringing in mixed precipitation of snow, sleet, ice and high-speed winds.
