An anglerfish made a trek to the surface of the ocean only to die after seeing the sun, prompting people to get emotional online.

National Geographic explained how the scientists who spotted this anglerfish — also referred to as the “black seadevil” for its monstrous appearance — were ecstatic to observe it swimming toward the ocean’s surface, as it was a phenomenon that no one had ever documented before.

The scary-looking fish is usually to be found more than a mile below the surface, where little to no light penetrates.
