CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The Lake Chabot Public Market in Castro Valley was gutted by a massive 3-alarm fire Thursday that sent flames soaring high into the pre-dawn sky. No injuries were reported.

An egret plucks a hooked fish out of Lake Chabot as it fishes for breakfast in Vallejo. The bird was able to carefully shake the hook free and still enjoy a meal in the warm weather on Tuesday.
