Chris Evans has called December's report that he's set to make his MCU return for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday "not true," claiming that he is "happily retired."

Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans spent five years making Marvel movies together as Sam Wilson/Falcon and Steve Rogers/Captain America. Their characters were close friends, with Steve bestowing the Captain America shield to Sam at the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.

“That’s not true, though,” Evans said when asked about the rumours. “This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years—ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it. Yeah, no—happily retired!”

Doomsday? Well… according to Captain America himself he isn't. Though The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in December that Evans would be dipping back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor is now denying those reports.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be back as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday, and that's a good thing.

The Wrap reported that Chris Evans had accepted The World’s Most Predictable Job Offer, i.e., a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where everybody likes him, and nobody makes him hack computers to stop snow witches from murdering Santa Claus or whatever.

Marvel's former Captain America is the latest Avenger to deny any further return to the franchise, seemingly an obligatory claim at this point.
