Nigerian music star Yemi Alade has declared herself a winner after losing the Grammy Award to fellow artise Tems. The self-proclaimed “Mama Africa” attended the prestigious event adorned in an Edo-inspired traditional outfit, celebrating her heritage and making a bold fashion statement.

Nigerian singer Tems saw off the likes of Yemi Alade, Burna Boy and Wizkid to take home the Best African Music Performance Grammy for her hit Love Me Jeje. In an emotional acceptance speech on Sunday evening, she said her "heart was beating so fast".

This year, eight Nigerian-based artists are nominated, with Tems and Yemi Alade standing as the women among them.

The music star is bringing on his African giant aura in this edition. Burna Boy’s dominance in African music is undeniable, and his consistent presence at the Grammys proves it. A past winner for Twice As Tall (2021) and a six-time nominee, he returns this year with Higher, a song that cements his role as a global ambassador of Afrobeats.
