A bot modeled after the 1966 ELIZA chatbot. ELIZA was written at MIT by Joseph Weizenbaum between 1964 and 1966. She attempts to simulate a Rogerian psychotherapist.

ELIZA was one of the first chatterbots (later clipped to chatbot). It was also an early test case for the Turing Test, a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.

The Eliza effect borrowed its name from ELIZA the chatbot. This effect is first defined in Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models and the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought [ 42 ] as humans’ assumption of which computer programs understand the user inputs and make analogies.
