Volvo turbo reliability? - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk Community
Feb 6, 2008 · There is slightly more complexity with a turbo engine. They are only a problem with negligent owners who don’t use proper oil or extend the oil changes. My parents are driving a 1990 Volvo 740 turbo wagon with over 200k+ miles on the original turbo and has original engine. They are good with maintenance. Drive both and see what you like better.
Vacuum leak in a turbo, damaging to drive? - Car Talk Community
Mar 10, 2016 · I have a 2008 volvo S80 T6 (inline 6 with a turbo). This week I noticed a rhythmic squeaking like a bad belt. I had also noticed a decrease in power and one instance of what sounded like a backfire during a quick acceleration. The vehicle computer has not thrown any warnings. I brought it to the mechanic and he initially thought it was a belt too, but then wanted to “try something” and ...
Volvo V70XC Turbo Problem? - Car Talk Community
Jul 27, 2009 · When e turbo dies it won’t stop the car in its tracks. You’ll have markedly less power, but you can still drive the car to a garage to replace the turbo. My '98 XC70 had all kinds of problems but the original turbo went 210,000 miles and was still running strong and quiet. This is a very expensive car to own and maintain.
Older Volvo floods--the fix! - The Show - Car Talk Community
Nov 8, 2009 · Sometime back, you guys were talking with a fellow who had an older Volvo which would start fine, then die after about a minute. You were advising him against putting in a lot of money on a fix for the problem. Well…I have an '88 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon and it ALWAYS dies about a minute after I start it in cold weather, the engine flooded. My Volvo factory-trained mechanic couldn’t solve it ...
Octane requirements for 2004 Volvo XC70 - Car Talk Community
Apr 6, 2014 · Very interesting how so many of you assume turbo=premium. C’mon guys, this ain’t the 1980s! While a brand like Volvo may indeed specify premium for its turbo motors, there are many modern (I consider 2004 modern) turbos that do not.

1991 Volvo 940 turbo wagon - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk …
Apr 30, 2010 · Going against everything that I thought I was going to do when looking for an inexpensive used car I have found myself intrigued by a 1991 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon with 200,000 miles on it. It appears fine, maintained, etc. Searching around I can not find anything overly negative about this year of this car. It seems like parts are not outrageously priced and the price is in my budget. Would I be ...

2006 Volvo S60 - Quick Acceleration stutter/sputter (not stalling)
Feb 22, 2013 · Hi. My 2006 Volvo S60 turbo has about 116K miles and noticed a couple times when I punch the gas to accelerate quickly (like to pass someone on the interstate) that it will make this quick jerky thing (as though I ran over some rumble strips). I normally drive like a grandma so this has only happened a couple times. Today I was on the interstate and decided to test this out and sure enough it ...
Engine misfire on 1986 volvo turbo - Car Talk Community
Apr 11, 2012 · Those old Volvo’s need new plugs every 30K miles, and the distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires are replaced frequently too. If you don’t replace these parts you will get misfires. Since you state the car was not well taken care of, perhaps you need all these parts replaced and then see how it runs.
