Nov 1, 2010 · Jan 11, 2011... Just bought a used Volvo xc90 t6 turbo with 80K for $8,000 from a "mini cooper" dealer. When we got home we found a paper in the glove box that the previous owner left. It was a sales receipt from a Volvo dealer from 2 months ago.

My 2003 XC90 T6 transmission failed on the Motorway. My Volvo dealership has quoted £4000 to repair but cannot get the spare part for over a month due to the high demand for these spares. Web forums such as this are littered with unhappy XC90 owners with failed transmissions.

I am looking for opinions regarding the 2019 Volvo XC90 Inscription T6 vs the 2019 BMW X5 xDrive 40i. I realize that the X5 is just entering production but I am looking for opinions- pros, cons, of both cars- people in similar positions who are choosing one over the other and why.

The rep at Volvo USA told me Volvo was aware there was a problem with the T6 transmission and if the car had under 100K miles, "Volvo would do the right thing." She was right. Without any arguing or haggling on my part, Volvo is paying for 100% of the new transmission.

I did get the issue resolved but it was a pain. The ignition switch went out, and the parts are only available from Europe at Volvo's main warehouse. So, it took almost a week to fix. We were out of town (500 miles from home). The Volvo dealer in Des Moines gave us a loaner to drive back east, then they had the car transported back to our house.
